
Weave a Rush Hat
The Course
An opportunity to make your own woven rush hat using Common Bulrush (Scirpus Lacustris) collected from the river Thames. Starting with your own custom-made hat block, you will learn how to use this wonderfully supple material and basketry techniques to create a unique hat to wear.
The Tutor
Rachel Frost has been a professional historic milliner for the past 10 years, making hats in a variety of materials for museums and private collections worldwide. She has recently received the Janet Arnold award for costume research she is currently making a study of early hats in Britain.
Participant Information
All materials will be provided. If you are planning to make a hat for someone else, it would be useful to obtain their head size. Using a soft tape measure, measure the head across the forehead / above the ears i.e. the widest part.

Fee & Refreshments
£85 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance. The Museum café will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
