Admissions
Tickets
Your commitment to us
Terms and conditions of purchases will apply to all transactions placed online, by e-mail, telephone or by post or in person with the Weald & Downland Living Museum. When you confirm your purchase, you accept that these terms and conditions form the basis of any agreement between the Weald & Downland Living Museum, Town Lane, Singleton, PO18 0EU (the Museum, we, us, our) and yourself.
Prices
Prices are in pounds sterling (£) inclusive of any applicable taxes and there are no surcharges whatsoever.
All credit / debit card transactions are subject to validation checks and authorisations by the card issuer. If the issuer of your card refuses to authorise payment to us, the Weald & Downland Living Museum will not be liable for any delay and / or non-delivery of your tickets.
Once you have paid, we will not increase the price of your tickets.
Prices displayed on our website and at our premises are subject to change without notice.
Cancellations
All tickets are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
In the event of the cancellation, forced closure or postponement of the Museum or any of its events, due to extreme weather, Force Majeure or government legislation, Museum ticket holders will, in the first instance be offered future dates to visit, or tickets will be offered to another event. Refunds are at the sole discretion of the Museum Director. Proof of purchase will be required. The Museum is not liable for visitors’ accommodation and travel costs and will not reimburse such costs should an event be cancelled or the Museum need to close to visitors due to circumstances beyond its control (for example, adverse weather conditions).
Tickets that have been purchased and have subsequently been Gift Aided cannot, under HMRC rules, be refunded. We will endeavour to find a suitable alternative option for visitors in these circumstances.
Online bookings
Once purchased, online tickets may not be used in conjunction with any other offer. No ticket may be resold.
Any discounts or offers online are available for limited quantities and periods only and shall not be available on bookings made by phone or in person.
Daily Admission
- Access to the Museum will be given during the allocated hour slot indicated on your ticket.
- All visitors in your party must have a valid timed entry ticket with the exception of babes in arms.
- You may arrive at any point during your allocated hour slot.
- Entry outside of your allocated hour slot cannot be guaranteed and might be refused
- If you are a holder of a discount card, i.e. Student card, Blue Light, this must be presented at time of entry alongside your timed entry ticket to validate it.
- Tickets are non-refundable even if unredeemed.
- If due to unforeseen circumstances you are unable to attend your visit to the Museum as planned and advise us at least 24 hours prior to your ticketed date and time, we will endeavour to move your tickets to another date. Tickets can only be moved to date or time at the same price within 6 months of your original ticket.
- If you are a UK taxpayer and have bought tickets that include a donation, the Museum can claim back extra money from the government through the Gift Aid scheme. You agree to contact us if you wish to cancel your Gift Aid declaration, if you have changed your name or address, or if you no longer pay sufficient tax to qualify for Gift Aid. If you pay Income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you can include all your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue & Customs to adjust your tax code.
- We reserve the right at our discretion to alter our advertised arrangements for demonstrations and exhibitions, and to cancel any time slot or demonstration or exhibition without notice.
- From time to time we may, or we may authorise third parties to, carry out filming, photography and/or sound recordings at our premises and Events. By purchasing tickets you agree (on your own behalf and on behalf of any persons for whom you purchase tickets and who attend our premises/ an Event) that we and any third party authorised by us may include you and those you have bought tickets for in such films, photographs and/or sound recordings and may exploit such films, photographs and sound recordings in perpetuity in any format whatsoever without payment. You are responsible for bringing this provision to the attention of any person for whom you have bought tickets. We will always let visitors know if filming or photography is taking place during their visit.
- You may be permitted to use a hand-held camera for private and non-commercial purposes but you and any other visitors for whom you purchased tickets must comply with any restrictions on photography which we make known to you.
- You may commit an offence if you copy any material which is protected by copyright without the consent of the relevant copyright owner. If this occurs you may face criminal or civil penalties.
- The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum does not permit unauthorised drone operation on its land and or properties.

- All tickets sold are for personal use only, and cannot be resold, transferred or used for promotional, commercial or fundraising purposes.
- We acting reasonably at all times, reserve the right to refuse admission to our premises, or remove from our premises without any right to a refund any person that fails to comply with the Admissions Guidelines and/or any reasonable instructions that we (or our staff or third parties instructed on our behalf) may give to visitors from time to time.
Museum events
- Access to the event will be given at the time indicated on your ticket
- All visitors in your party must have a valid timed ticket
- Entry outside of your allocated time cannot be guaranteed and might be refused
- Dogs are not permitted to all events, please check your ticket before your visit.
- If you are a holder of a discount card, i.e. Student card, Blue Light, this must be presented at time of entry alongside your timed entry ticket to validate it.
- Tickets are non-refundable even if unredeemed.
- We reserve the right at our discretion to alter our advertised arrangements for events, demonstrations and exhibitions, and to cancel any time slot or event or demonstration or exhibition without notice.
- All tickets sold are for personal use only, and cannot be resold, transferred or used for promotional, commercial or fundraising purposes.
- We reserve the right to refuse admission.
Complimentary tickets
- We occasionally issue complimentary tickets.
- These can only be redeemed on the day at the Museum, and tickets are only valid until the date as printed on the ticket.
- We will not extend the expiry date on these tickets.
- Once expired these tickets are not valid and cannot be redeemed at the Museum.
- These cannot be used for Ticketed event days.
Group Bookings
Group Booking
- Groups must be a minimum of 15 people to qualify for the group rate.

- A Group Booking is only confirmed once we have received the booking form and all information is acceptable. The booking organiser will be notified by email that your visit is booked.
- Payments must be made two weeks in advance of your visit via bank transfer, BACs or over the phone. We do not accept American Express cards.
- The number of visitors stated on the booking form will be admitted at the discounted group rate. If any other visitors wish to join the group, they will be charged the normal admission rate upon arrival.
- Tour organisers may only use images of the Museum for promoting group visits that have been supplied by the Group Bookings Coordinator.
- Private Guided Tours are available at additional cost and are sold subject to availability.
- Cancellation of a Group Booking by the organiser less than two weeks before the booking are non refundable.
- We cannot process individual cancellations within a Group Booking, after payment has been made.
Visitor Code of Conduct
Respect Everyone
- be considerate to others enjoying a visit to the Museum, be nice, say hello, share the space
- please do not leave dogs in your vehicles, dogs on short leads are welcome onsite and can enter most of the buildings, except for the Bakehouse, Mill and Winkhurst kitchen
- respect the Museum artefacts and leave the historic buildings as you find them
- please keep a sensible distance from the working horses when they are moving or working on site
- do not feed the working animals, they have special diets, and they may bite
Protect the Environment
- the Museum is a no smoking and no vaping site, smoking is only permitted in the car park areas
- please dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided
- dogs must be kept on a short lead at all times, bag up and bin dog waste in the general waste bins
- care for nature, do not cause damage or disturbance
- please follow signs and keep to the paths
Enjoy the Outdoors
- plan your adventure – know what to expect and what you can do
- stay hydrated – all taps around the Museum provide drinking water so you can refill your water bottles
- please take care and supervise children at all times, especially near the millpond, the water is deep and swimming is not permitted
- please note that the woodland paths can be closed in extreme weather – our admissions team will advise you on arrival
Memberships
Membership Terms & Conditions
- Your membership provides standard daytime entry to the Museum. This does not include our ticketed events such as: Summer open air theatre, Christmas market and any event outside the Museum standard opening hours. Events and activities that are included in a membership are identified with the membership icon. Please see our website for more details www.wealddown.co.uk
- When you become a Museum member you will be provided with a membership card that we will scan every time you visit. You will keep this card for the duration of your membership. Your membership card can only be used by those named on the membership and is not transferable. We reserve the right to ask for identification at any time.
- The Museum membership card entitles you to 10% discount on purchases in the shop and café. The valid membership card must be presented and scanned for discount to be applied.
- Your membership does not entitle you to bring a guest, but you can receive a 10% discount for entry for friends/family to the Museum with a valid Membership discount voucher. To receive the discount, your friends/family must be visiting with the Museum member on the day of the visit. You must present your valid membership card and advise the admission team prior to purchasing the tickets for the discount to be applied.
- Members will receive selected discounts on Museum ticketed event and courses. This will be via a priority booking window before tickets are released to the general public. Please note that ticket events might be limited in number due to the event capacity, so these will be sold on a first come basis subject to availability.
- If we offer members tickets for an event, to manage visitor numbers on site we ask that members only purchase tickets for one day of an event. Your membership will only cover the number of tickets as per your membership subscription. It is your responsibility to check that your membership will be valid for the date of the event when purchasing the tickets.
- Priority booking notices are provided by email only. It is the responsibility of the Museum member to ensure their email address and contact permissions are correct and up to date.
- Membership packs are only issued for new memberships. If you are renewing your membership, your existing card will be renewed. If your membership has expired, within three months your existing membership card will be renewed. If you have lost your card you will need to advise us on renewal. Replacement cards can be issued on your next visit to the Museum.
- Children under the age of 4 years can visit the Museum free of charge. Children under the age of 16 years of age must always be accompanied by an adult.
- We reserve the right to refuse entry and/or membership and/or to revoke membership without a refund if a member behaves in a way that is not appropriate, is abusive or offensive.
- In the event of the cancellation, forced closure or postponement of the Museum or any of its events, due to extreme weather, Force Majeure or government legislation, Museum management may decide to close the main site in order to keep the public safe. We would always endeavour to inform you of this at the earliest possible opportunity.
- Gift membership vouchers become active once redeemed by the gift recipient online, by telephone or in-person at the Museum gift shop. Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months and must be redeemed before expiry. When activating a gift membership, the gift recipient will be required to supply their name, address and email for their Museum membership to be issued. Once issued the membership is then valid for the 12 months from date of the gift voucher redemption.
- The Museum reserves the right to increase the cost of any level of membership at any time. Existing members will be notified (a minimum of 14 days) in advance of their membership renewal. New prices will apply at the renewal or next membership direct debit payment.
- Member’s data will be held by the Weald & Downland Living Museum in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 to provide membership information, news and offers relating to the Museum. Our full privacy policy is available on our website www.wealddown.co.uk.
Annual Membership Plans
- Membership is renewable after 12 months. This can be paid by debit/credit card online or over the phone on 01243 811010. Or you can choose to set up a Direct Debit membership plan via our website.
- The cost of membership is non-refundable. Cancellation of the membership prior to the completion of the 12 months will not attract a refund.
- The Museum will contact you approximately 1 month before your membership is due to expire to remind you of your renewal date. We renew your existing membership card; new membership cards are not issued each year.
Direct Debit Membership Plans
- Your Museum membership is set up on a continuous Direct Debit, with a minimum period of 12 months.
- If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, we will notify you (a minimum of 14 days) in advance of your account being debited. We will contact you by email or letter depending on your communication preferences.
- If a direct debit payment fails this will result in your membership being paused or cancelled if the payments do not complete. We will contact you by email or post in this event to help resolve the issue.
- You are committing to a minimum 12 month Museum membership when you sign up to any membership plan. You have agreed to a minimum of a 12-month subscription when paying by a Direct Debit. Should you breach this agreement and cancel early, we reserve the right to take the necessary action to recover the remaining agreed payments.
- If you choose to cancel your membership just after the 12 month anniversary of your membership, you can cancel your Direct Debit by simply contacting your bank or building society. You must wait until a minimum of 12 payments have been taken on the current membership before cancelling.
Gift Vouchers
Admission Gift Vouchers
- Admission gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
- Voucher expiry dates cannot be extended.
- Admission gift vouchers can be redeemed online or in the Museum gift shop. We do recommend booking online to guarantee your visit on busier days.
- The admission gift voucher can only be redeemed against the same type of admission ticket: E.g. ‘Gift Visit Adult’ can only be redeemed against an ‘Entry Adult’.
- To redeem the voucher you must enter the 12 digit voucher code, in the second box down in the check-out process, ‘Gift Voucher Code’ box.
- Once redeemed, gift vouchers cannot be re-issued.
- Vouchers have no cash value and cannot be redeemed against any other Museum item.
- If you lose your voucher, you can request a copy by contacting office@wealddown.co.uk. You must provide your name and contact details for this request to be processed.
Courses Gift Vouchers
- Courses gift vouchers are valid for 2 years from the date of issue.
- Voucher expiry dates cannot be extended.
- The courses vouchers are only redeemable against the Museum courses, subject to their availability.
- To redeem the voucher you must enter the 12 digit voucher code, in the second box down in the check-out process, ‘Gift Voucher Code’ box.
- Once redeemed, gift vouchers cannot be re-issued.
- Vouchers have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for anything other than a Museum course.
- If the course is more than the voucher, you can use it to pay towards the course and you will need to pay the balance.
- If the course is less than the voucher, you can use the remaining balance towards another course. The voucher is still only valid for 2 years from the date of issue, so outstanding balances must be used before the expiry date.
- If you lose your voucher, you can request a copy by contacting courses@wealddown.co.uk. You must provide your name and contact details for this to be processed.
Membership Gift Vouchers
- Membership gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
- Voucher expiry dates cannot be extended.
- Membership gift vouchers can be redeemed online or in the Museum gift shop. We do recommend redeeming vouchers online, then your pack will be processed in advance and save time on the day of your visit.
- The membership gift voucher can only be redeemed against the same type of membership ticket: E.g. ‘Gift Membership Adult’ can only be redeemed against an annual ‘Adult’ membership.
- To redeem the voucher online you must enter the 12 digit voucher code, in the second box down in the check-out process, ‘Gift Voucher Code’ box.
- Once redeemed our membership team will process your membership pack which can take approx. 5 days for you to receive depending on the postal service.
- If you wish to visit within 5 days of your voucher redemption, please contact membership@wealddown.co.uk when you redeem it to advise (Monday to Friday). As we can leave your membership pack for collection in the Museum gift shop.
- If you redeem online over the weekend, you can collect your pack in the shop, but they will have to make it up for you at the time of your visit.
- Once redeemed, gift vouchers cannot be re-issued.
- Vouchers have no cash value and can only be redeemed against a Museum membership.
- If you lose your voucher, you can request a copy by contacting membership@wealddown.co.uk. You must provide your name and contact details for this request to be processed.
Monetary Gift Vouchers
- Gift Vouchers can be purchased in increments of £5 or £10
- Gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Unused values will not be refunded or attributed to any transactions after the expiry date. We cannot offer an extension on gift vouchers after they have expired.
- Gift vouchers can be redeemed against all products with the shop and the café at The Weald & Downland Living Museum. Gift Vouchers can also be used to purchase tickets into the museum, used in full or contribute to purchasing a museum annual membership.
- Monetary gift vouchers can ONLY be redeemed in person at the museum. They are unable to be used online.
- Gift vouchers cannot be redeemed for cash, returned for a refund, have their balances consolidated to a new voucher or be replaced after expiry and are not legal tender, account cards, credit or debit cards or securities.
- If the gift voucher has been lost or stolen, we are unable to provide a replacement.
- If your purchase exceeds the value of the gift voucher, the balance must be paid by cash, debit or credit card.
- If you return any products, you have purchased using a gift voucher, the balance will be credited to you as a credit note and is to be redeemed against subsequent purchases.
- The Weald & Downland Living Museum reserves the right to cancel a gift voucher if we deem such action necessary. If so, we may either provide a replacement gift voucher of equivalent value unless we suspect fraud in relation to a gift voucher. The gift voucher remains our property.
- The Weald & Downland Living Museum can vary or replace these conditions from time to time (including to introduce new fees)
- The Weald & Downland Living Museum reserves the right to refuse to accept a gift voucher in payment or part payment for any item where it reasonably suspects that the voucher may have been stolen, tampered with, duplicated or obtained in another illegal way.
