Participants will be taken through the process of marking out, roughing out and finishing a relief stone carving using hand tools.

Stone Carving: Green Man

The Course

A two-day workshop teaching participants how to mark out, rough out and finish a Green Man design in Bath stone. The course will give people the opportunity to either carve their own design or carve one using a template. The course will also cover carving techniques, sharpening and where to buy tools and stone. By the end of the course participants will have a finished carving.

The Tutor

Will Spankie trained as a sculptor in 1990 at Sir John Cass School of Art in London, and later at Central St. Martins School of Art. He undertakes private and public commissions from his Brighton base, and has experience in teaching courses at a variety of levels.

Participant Information

The course is limited to six participants, who will receive practical tuition and hands-on experience.

Please wear old clothing and wear sturdy footwear. All other materials will be provided. It can be advisable to wear warm layers as the Downland Gridshell can be a cool place to work.

Fee & Refreshments

£200 per person to include materials, tuition, tea and coffee. Please let the Museum know in advance of any dietary requirements. The Museum cafe will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
