Make A Traditional English Longbow
The Course
Over three days and starting with a simple stave of timber you will learn to shape a fully working bow based on the design of the great bow used in the Hundred Years’ War including at the Battle of Agincourt.
The Tutor
Phil Brooke is based in a beautiful woodlands in the heart of 1066 country, East Sussex, where Phil is the manager of an ancient woodland Estate, managed traditionally & exclusively for wildlife conservation and education.
Phil is a full time Bowyer, Woodsman and Bushcraft Specialist. Splitting his time between his workshop and woodland workshop where he makes Traditional Bows and provide educational courses in a wide range of wilderness skills.
Founded in 2011 their primary role is the teaching of a broard amount of subjects from Traditional Bow Making, Medieval Arrow Making, Bushcraft & wilderness skills, Deer Butchery, Deer Stalking, Woodland Crafts, Natural Navigation, Ethnobotany and Animal Tracks And Signs. Participant Information
Please wear sensible working clothes and sturdy footwear. The course takes place in the Downland Gridshell so it is advisable to wear layers as the building can be cool. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil.
Please do not bring your own knives or any other cutting tools as you will be loaned appropriate equipment when necessary.
Tea and coffee is provided. The Museum café will be open for lunch, or you may bring a packed lunch each day. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance.
