Artefacts and Homes from the past
At our monthly Home Education Days, families are invited to join us for a day of hands-on activities and creative workshops, designed especially for curious minds and creative hands.
At each workshop, we explore a new history theme, bringing the past to life through interactive experiences.
Our workshops are aimed at children aged 4–13 years, with an accompanying adult supporting their children where needed. With such a broad age range, sessions are delivered at Key Stage 1 and 2 level, with flexibility to suit different learning styles.
During this interactive workshop participants will step back in time and explore how homes and everyday life have changed through history.
As part of our artefacts and homes from the past workshop, the day will include visiting the Artefacts store to get involved in hands-on activities, historical investigation, and practical comparisons, learners will discover the evolution of domestic life, technology, and archaeology.
We will take part in:
- Handle authentic historical objects and match them to their modern-day equivalents.
- Explore two historical buildings and compare improvements in home design and living standards over time.
- Investigate clues within a historic property to uncover its past and the lives of its former occupants in the House Detective activity.
- Take part in an archaeological dig to uncover replica artefacts and record findings.
