Prices

EYFS (aged 3-5 years): £5.00
Key Stage 1 and 2 (aged 5-11 years): £5.00
Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 (aged 11-18 years): £5.00
FE/HE Students (aged 18+): £7.00

Accompanying Adults

EYFS/Key Stage 1 – 1 accompanying adult FREE for every 6 pupils, additional adults only £5.00 per head
Key Stages 2 to 5 – 1 accompanying adult FREE for every 8 pupils, additional adults only £5.00 per head
FE/HE (aged 18+) – 1 accompanying adult FREE for every 10 students, additional adults only £7.00 per head

Adults accompanying SEND children FREE

Coach and car parking FREE

Museum-led workshops £40/£50/£95 depending on duration, please see separate entries for details. Workshops can currently accommodate up to 15 participants. If you have more than 15 participants you will need to book multiple workshops.

Demonstrations around the Museum vary from day to day. We often have millers and blacksmiths working but if you have something particular in mind please mention it when booking and we’ll see what can be arranged.

Travel Bursary Fund

Worried about the cost of coaches? We are aware that the cost of getting here can be a problem for some schools, so we are delighted to be able to offer a travel bursary to schools that meet our criteria. We can offer up to £400 towards your travel costs. To see if you are eligible and to make an application ‘Apply Now

Preparing for Your Visit

We recommend that you make a FREE preliminary visit to the Museum to help plan your day and complete your Risk Assessments. To claim your free visit, you must contact schoolbookings@wealddown.co.uk in advance. If you would like to meet a member of the Learning Team to discuss your visit, please advise when contacting the team so we can organise the best date/time for your visit. On the day of your Preliminary Visit, please bring identification from your school and the confirmation of your visit.

Cancellations

Please note we require 21 full working days’ notice of cancellation. Those failing to give the required notice will be subject to charges.

Health & Safety

Schools are required to complete their own risk assessments, which take into account any specific needs that the group they are bringing may have. The Museum has comprehensive codes of practice and policies covering Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Risk Assessments and First Aid. Copies are available at the time of booking.

We look forward to welcoming your group to the Weald & Downland Museum, we ask you to read through and share the following information with all those whom will be accompanying your students on their visit.

Behaviour

  • On the day of your visit, you will not be the only people onsite, so please be considerate to others enjoying their day at the Museum.
  • We are very lucky to have many Volunteers sharing their extensive knowledge with visitors, please be respectful and courteous towards them.
  • Volunteers are not here to supervise the students, so please stay with your group when they enter a house or attend a workshop.
  • It is the teachers and supervisors’ responsibility to manage the behaviour of their students.
  • Students are not free to wonder around the site alone; they must be always supervised.
  • Please respect the Museum artefacts and leave the historic buildings as you find them
  • We have animals at the Museum, please enjoy looking at them but do not touch, feed or chase them.
  • Please take care and supervise students at all times, especially near the millpond, the water is deep and swimming is not permitted
  • For the safety and wellbeing of your students, we ask you not to climb any of the exhibits and or trees whilst on site.
  • When visiting the shop please could you make sure you supervise the pupils in small groups.

Additional information

  • Please dispose of your rubbish in the bins provided
  • Care for nature, do not cause damage or disturbance
  • Pease follow signs and keep to the paths
  • Plan your adventure – know what to expect and what you can do
  • Stay hydrated – all taps around the Museum provide drinking water so you can refill your water bottles
  • Most importantly have a fantastic day
