Getting Married at the Museum

The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum is a unique location for your wedding and a tranquil haven from the rush and noise of modern living. Here, over 40 historic buildings set in a beautiful 19th century park provide an outstanding backdrop for your great day.

Wedding ceremonies, for up to 50 seated guests, will take place in Crawley Hall. The main feature of this 15th century building is the hall on the first floor. This first floor room is a long, open timber-framed room; it may have originally been a communal meeting place. It may well have been used to celebrate a wedding! Crawley Hall is not usually open to the public.

One of the attractions of Crawley Hall as a wedding venue is that, on any one day, and unlike many hotels and registry offices there will not be a queue of weddings.  We will only book one wedding per day. Wedding parties are able to set their own pace for their own day but the legally binding words of the ceremony must be said before 6pm.

Your table awaits in the 16th century Crawley Hall!

You can arrive in a horse drawn vehicle from the bride's home or another local venue, and perhaps incorporate a brief ride in the Museum's parkland.

The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum is a superb venue for your marriage ceremony and there are, of course, many idyllic settings for your wedding photographs including the lakeside and market hall from Titchfield.

If you wish to stay longer, we would be delighted to arrange post-ceremony refreshments, simply let us know what you would prefer and whether you want champagne and canapés by the lake or beer and doughnuts we will try to accommodate your wishes. Alternatively, reception services, for a maximum of 30 people, can be arranged directly with the Ellis Family Partnership who run the Museum's cafe. There are other lovely venues for your reception which are easily accessible from the Museum.

We would be pleased to discuss your individual requirements and wishes to help ensure that your wedding day is as relaxed, perfect and memorable as possible. Contact Diana Rowsell. on 01243 811464.

Crawley Hall is registered with West Sussex County Council as a venue for civil marriages in pursuance of Section 26(1) (bb) of the Marriage Act 1994.
