Autumn Countryside Show on the
9 & 10 October. As well as heavy horses and vintage tractors ploughing,
there will be steam-powered threshing, and a variety of rural craft
demonstrations and displays.

 | This year's
ecumenical open-air service takes place on St Roche's
Hill, better known as The Trundle, on St
Roche's Day being the 16 August 2010. To attend the service
at 6.30pm taken this year by Father Keith Hyde-Dunn SSE, participants will
process behind the clergy up the hill. A brass quartet led by Kevin Webb
will accompany the singing and after the blessing there will be an
opportunity for the laying on of hands as part of the ministry of healing.

Steam Festival on 14 & 15
August. Appealing to both steam enthusiasts, and visitors looking for an
exciting day full of unusual sights, sounds and smells! Steam engines will
be demonstrating the work they were designed for, in an event packed with
exhibits, demonstrations and displays representing how steam power was
used for industry, agriculture, road, rail and shipping.

Building
Conservation comes of Age
A one day conference exploring building
conservation’s journey from the avant garde of the 60s to its current
mainstream acceptance.
Tuesday 28th September 2010
9.30am-4.30pm
How did it all start? Who were the
pioneers? How has it developed? Where is it going? Hear papers from the key
people whose practical and teaching contributions over the last forty years
have brought us to a time when most people understand the importance of
conserving our built heritage. The day will be informative, cover a wide
spectrum of crafts and be inspirational. This conference is one part of the
celebrations to mark the Museum’s Ruby Anniversary.
£60 per person including
refreshments all day. Places will be limited so call 01243 811464 to
book your place. There is an optional spit roast in the
evening for £10.

Timber
Framing
from
Scratch
course
produces high quality oak frames and a number of these are now for sale.
Some
of these are complete with studs and braces and some are the basic frame
but could be complete for buyers who are willing to wait until the
intermediate framing courses take place. Previous buyers are using them
for summerhouses, play houses, offices and garden sheds, clad in
whatever materials are wanted. Prices are dependent on degree of
completion and range from £2,500 to £4,250 plus
VAT,

Job Opportunities |

Volunteers. The museum depends upon volunteer helpers. During the
public opening times volunteer stewards staff the Museum. Other volunteers help with
administration, maintenance work, marketing, education and other tasks.

chatting to people? If so we are keen to recruit new volunteer
house stewards to work on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. Age is no barrier and the work is not physically demanding.
