art of the blacksmith is being
celebrated over the weekend from Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd August. It will
centre around the British Artist Blacksmith Association (BABA) Annual
General Meeting which is being hosted for the first time by the Museum,
and is sure to prove popular with visitors with an interest in the skills
of blacksmithing, skilled workmanship, or art and design.

'Sussex Food and
Farming' fair on 4 and 5 May will be a celebration of downland
farming, in recognition of the national 'Year of Food and Farming'.
Jointly organised with 'A Taste of Sussex', more than 80 producers from
the south east region will present a stunning array of local produce, from
wines, sauces, ciders and beers to meat, cheese, ice cream, cakes and
confectionery. The farming element will include dairying, poultry, cereal,
horticulture and meat farming.

legs, furry legs, fluffy legs and feathered legs! Come and
get up close to over 500 cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and poultry at the
Rare and Traditional Breeds Show
on Sunday 20 July at the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, near
Chichester. This delightful annual agricultural shoe is one of the biggest
and most popular shows of its kind in the south east.

 | We have
two very different fun days planned at the Museum this
summer, a special activity day for dads on Father's Day 15 June and a
musical afternoon featuring period music, dancing and merry making from
2pm on Sunday 6 July.
Father's Day will
offer the chance to try out countryside skills and of course, mum is
welcome to join in as well!
The musicians at the
Early Music Afternoon, some in period costume, will perform Medieval,
Tudor and Stuart pieces including the 'pop' music from the streets. |

Timber
Framing
from
Scratch
course
produces high quality oak frames and a number of these are now for sale.
Some
of these are complete with studs and braces and some are the basic frame
but could be complete for buyers who are willing to wait until the
intermediate framing courses take place. Previous buyers are using them
for summerhouses, play houses, offices and garden sheds, clad in
whatever materials are wanted. Prices are dependent on degree of
completion and range from £2,500 to £4,250 plus
VAT,

public opening times volunteer stewards staff the Museum. Other volunteers help with
administration, maintenance work, marketing, education and other tasks.
