The Course

A two-day practical course covering the different aspects of flint walling including:

  • Preparation of flints for laying, knapping and setting out.
  • Advice on tools and lime mortars to use and where.
  • Practical flint work in different styles including galletting.

Please Note:

Day 1 starts at 9am and runs until 16.30
Day 2 starts at 9am and finishes at 1300

The Tutors

Mark Middleton and Phil Francis of Berry-Middleton Ltd are experienced in many aspects of flint work, and have worked on many local projects.

Participant Information

Places are limited to 12 participants. Please waar wear warm working clothes and safety boots. You also need to bring gloves, protective goggles, a gauging trowel, and a small tool (sometimes called a leaf trowel or leaf and square trowel), all these items can be found at good builders merchants.

Fee & Refreshments

£250 per person, to include tuition, tea and coffees, and lunch. Please tell the Museum in advance if you have any dietary requirements.
