The Course

Discover  Old English Healing and Medicine medical traditions from 1000 years ago, including surgery, charms and magic. You will explore various manuscripts and the different approaches of their compilers, learn about appeals to divinities, and hopefully answer the key question – did any of it actually work?

 

The Tutor

Stephen Pollington teaches Old English language and literature with CityLit in London, as well as “Life in Anglo-Saxon England” and Gothic language. He is the author of over 15 books on Saxon subjects, including medicine, warfare, meadhall culture, art, writing, and language.

 

Participant Information

All materials will be supplied. Participants might wish to bring a notepad or paper.

 

Fee & Refreshments

£75 per person, this includes tuition, tea and coffee. Please let the Museum know in advance if you have any dietary requirements. You can bring your own packed lunch or the café will be open at lunchtime.
