Make a Medieval Leatherbound Long Stitch Book

The Course

On this course you will learn how to make a medieval long stitch book in leather with linen thread using techniques that have not changed in 400 years. By the end of the day, you will have a fully functional notebook complete with wrap around tie to take home or gift.

The Tutor

Marysa de Veer runs a bookbinding company called Otter Bookbinding Ltd based in Midhurst. She has been a working bookbinding for 25 years and is a specialist in antiquarian book repair as well as bespoke bookbinding in all its forms. Marysa enjoys arts and crafts and has designed a number of books and is actively involved in the yearly August art trail in Midhurst. She is a part time tutor of bookbinding at West Dean College and also runs monthly courses from the workshop in Midhurst.

Participant Information

All equipment and materials will be provided.

Fee & Refreshments

£80 per person to include all materials and use of tools, and teas and coffees. If you have any dietary requirements please let the Museum know in advance. The Museum café will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
