Leather Sheath Making
The Course
On this course you will learn to create your very own custom leather sheath for a knife, pruner, or axe sheath!
In this practical course you will learn how to design, measure, cut, stitch and finish a sheath tailored to your favourite knife, axe or pruner, using brown vegetable tanned, dyed through leather. This is a perfect opportunity to begin or develop your leathercrafting skills and leave with a functional item. Maximum size available to make is a length of 250mm.
The Tutor
Jon Lewington is a design engineer with a lifelong interest in rural trades and crafts who specializes in recreating bygone leather objects using traditional methods.
Participant Information
All tools will be provided. Please bring the item you’re making a sheath for with you.
Participants are advised that stains will be used, so old clothes and/or an apron are recommended.
The course takes place in the Gridshell, it is advisable to wear layers as it can be cool.
Fee & Refreshments
£100 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. Please let the Museum know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. The Museum café will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
