Dorset Button Brooch

The Course

Learn to make a beaded rainbow spiral brooch and a posy brooch with Jen Best of Beaker Button. Both brooches use traditional Dorset button making techniques, in a new and contemporary way.

The course will cover the different materials which can be used in button making, a little history, and what it’s possible to do with Dorset buttons. Samples of Jen Best’s textile work will be available for inspiration.

The Tutor

From a young age Jen Best was taught by her Grandmother to make Dorset buttons, knit, crochet, sew and embroider. A few years ago she learn to spin and felt. Her addiction to wool and wooley pursuits has lasted for over 30 years. She has been teaching buttons for almost as long as she has been making them. She designs knitting and crochet patterns, all involving Dorset buttons. She also design Dorset button jewellery and button kits.

Participant Information

The tutor will provide all the materials and instructions to take home. You might however like to bring notebooks and scissors.

Fee & Refreshments

£65 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. Please let the Museum know in advance if you have any dietary requirements. The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
