Dorset Button Bracelet

The Course

You will learn about the history of Dorset buttons from their beginnings in the 1600s, the growth of button making in the 1700s, it’s death in the Industrial Revolution and the various people and organisations who’ve kept them alive, and the contemporary buttons of today.

Learn to make several different types of Dorset button, and how to sew them together to make a beautiful bracelet.

The Tutor

From a young age Jen Best was taught by her Grandmother to make Dorset buttons, knit, crochet, sew and embroider. A few years ago she learn to spin and felt. Her addiction to wool and wooley pursuits has lasted for over 30 years. She has been teaching buttons for almost as long as she has been making them. She designs knitting and crochet patterns, all involving Dorset buttons. She also design Dorset button jewellery and button kits.

Participant Information

The tutor will provide all the materials and instructions to take home. You might however like to bring notebooks and scissors.

Fee & Refreshments

£65 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. Please let the Museum know in advance if you have any dietary requirements. The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
