The Course

During this course you will learn how to make continuous wattle fencing using mature hazel rods up to 5.5 metres in length, which are woven between upright supports to the height or length required.
By the end of the day, you will have acquired the skills and experience to create your own wattle fencing at home, which will look good in any garden setting, should be strong enough to fence in stock and will last five to eight years.

The Tutor

Carlotta Holt, Museum Head Gardener and Lyn Burlyn, Gardening Assistant. Along with a team of volunteers, Carlotta and Lyn maintain, develop and interpret the 6 historic gardens at the Museum and have many years’ experience working on hurdle fencing across the Museum site.

Participant Information

You do not need to bring any equipment but please wear sturdy footwear and wear sensible warm outdoor clothing as this course takes place outdoors. Please also bring a pair of gardening gloves.

This course requires a good level of physical fitness.

Fee & Refreshments

£75 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance. The Museum cafe will be open or you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
