Courses at the Weald & Downland Living Museum

Christmas Corn Dollies

The Course

The workshop will impart the history and development of this ancient craft, as well as the practical skills involved in weaving corn dollies. With the festive season in sight, participants will have the opportunity to create a range of Christmas themed corn dollies or idols. They will learn about the materials used, how to prepare the materials and learn a range of weaving techniques.

The Tutor

Verna Bailey is a regular demonstrator at the Museum and has been making corn dollies for many years. She shares her skills with younger visitors on special event days and adults on these workshops.

It will be helpful if participants can bring their own tea-towel and pair of sharp craft scissors. All other materials are provided.
