Arrow Making
Course Description
This arrow making workshop runs over three days and aims to give participants the knowledge and skills needed to make a range of arrows ranging from modern target style arrows, primitive hunter gather arrows and medieval war arrows that you’ll make using traditional medieval methods.
Over the three days you’ll prepare and work with sawn out timber made from stems of shrubs with excellent qualities for arrow making and discover how our ancestors made arrows to suit their needs for warfare or as part of their hunter gatherer lifestyles.
The Tutors
Phil Brooke is based in beautiful woodlands in the heart of 1066 country, East Sussex, where he manages an ancient woodland Estate traditionally and exclusively for wildlife conservation and education.
Phil is a bowyer, woodsman and bushcraft specialist, splitting his time between the woodlands and his workshop where he makes traditional bows and provides courses in a wide range of wilderness skills.
Founded in 2011, his courses cover a wide range of subjects including traditional bow making, bushcraft and wilderness skills, deer stalking and butchery, woodland crafts, natural navigation, ethnobotany and animal tracking. For more information please visit www.chosenpathsbushcraft.co.uk
Participant Information
This course is limited to 10 people. Please wear sensible working clothes and sturdy footwear. The course takes place in the Downland Gridshell so it is advisable to wear layers as the building can be cool. You may wish to bring a notebook and pencil.
Please do not bring your own knives or any other cutting tools as you will be loaned appropriate equipment when necessary.
Tea and coffee is provided. The Museum café will be open for lunch or you may bring a packed lunch each day. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance.
