The Weald & Downland Living Museum – a hidden gem in the South East, quintessentially British in a picture perfect setting. We are a museum for those who want to see, touch and even smell what life was really like for people living in years gone by.

We are dedicated to the conservation of historic buildings across Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. As an independent Museum we share and bring to life the untold stories of rural communities over the last 950 years.

Founded in 1970, by Dr J.R. Armstrong MBE, our Museum leads in the conservation of historic buildings. Immerse yourself in over 950 years of history, exploring our exhibits, a combination of 50 traditional homes and workplaces of village and countryside, which have been rescued from destruction, dismantled and re-built on our on site.

The Repair Shop

Please note: The BBC’s The Repair Shop is filmed at the Museum. However, please note that it is a closed film set and is not accessible to the public. The set including the outside of the barn is visible from a short distance but there is no public access beyond that point. We are not able to offer tours to this area, please do not promote this as part of your group visit to the Museum.

Occasionally, the Museum is able to open the Repair Shop Barn to the public on special sneak peak days. You can find more information about future Repair Shop dates by clicking here
