Summer Holiday Activities – Week Three
Scarecrow trail – all week – Can you find all 8 scarecrows on display around the museum site and find out their names? As a scarecrow judge, you will get to award each scarecrow with a rosette. Which one do you think is the funniest? The Scariest? The Silliest? The best scarecrow to have a selfie with? You decide!
All scarecrows have been kindly made by local community groups
Knucker the Dragon’s Nature School – Tuesday to Thursday, 11am to 4pm – Make a paper plate vegetable garden, scarecrow face and create minibeasts from model magic at the Creation Station. Learn about plants and vegetables at the Investigation Station, and play outdoor games such as giant dominoes and our Knucker the Dragon marble game at the Games Station.
Have a go at Saxon Archery – Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 4pm – Come and see if you have what it takes to be a Saxon archer with Red Fox Archery!
Farming tales with Dawn Nelson – Monday 5 August and Friday 9 August – Join storyteller Dawn Nelson as she tells the tales of the farming folk. Discover how to trick a boggart, meet the original gold spinning dwarf, Tom Tit Tot, and unveil the secrets of the Fairy Cows in stories for the hearthside, told once the work in the fields was done. Storytelling sessions are under the tree in the square at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
There will also be “Have a go at” activities with our volunteers around the site during the week. Please check with staff on arrival for what is available each day.

Information for Visitors
The Museum’s 40 acres site, historic gardens and buildings are fascinating places to learn about rural history. Visitors can purchase grain from the Museum shop and feed the hungry ducks on the mill pond. Whilst enjoying the great outdoors and fresh air, look out for our working animals, which can include the Heavy Horses, Sheep and Ducks. There are a number of lovely woodland trails, including a woodland play area for children to explore.
Why not enjoy breakfast, brunch or lunch at our waterside café? Visitors can also bring a picnic as there are plenty of picnic areas available on site. Takeaway refreshments will also be available from our seasonal Shepherd’s Huts located around the Museum.
Dogs on short leads are welcome and there is ample free parking. Please note that the Museum is a no-smoking site. Visitors with access needs are advised to read our accessibility page in advance of their visit.
