Family Winter Clay Workshop: Sculpt a Clay Snowman
The Course
Take part in this Family Winter Clay Workshop and enjoy being creative by sculpting your very own winter Snowman from clay! This fun relaxing workshop is suitable for all the family.
The workshop will start with a short introduction into Snowman making in the Victorian era and how it changed from the simple medieval pastime into a popular, cheerful, family-centred winter tradition. We will look at early photographs from this era and examples of its popularity.
Your clay snowman will be completely unique and individually created by yourself! The tutor will demonstrate the process of how to construct the body and head of the snowman using the pinch-pot technique. This will be given in easy to follow step-by-step stages. You will then be shown decorative ideas for adding clay hats, scarves, carrot noses etc to make it a truly unique piece.
When you have finished creating your snowman, you will add colour with using brush on glazes.
Your finished snowman will be carefully kiln fired by the tutor and can be collected from the Weald & Downland once ready.
£30 per person. Children must be aged 6 years and over and be accompanied by one adult. If the adult would also like to take part in the course, please buy an additional ticket. Any additional adults must purchase an entry ticket for the day. Fee includes entry to the Museum for those who want to stay and explore further after the workshop.
The Tutor
Gill Hunter Nudds is a professional artist with over 20 years’ experience of working with clay and has been facilitating workshops for adults and children for over 15 years. Gill opens her own studio for the Chichester Opens Studio’s and runs workshops from there. She has been a guest artist at the Brighton Open Houses for over 20 years and is a member of the Southern Ceramics group. She regularly exhibits her work at local galleries
Participant Information
Please wear old clothes and bring your own apron as clay can be messy.
Tuition, tools and all materials will be provided by the Tutor.
The course will be limited to 16 people. Participants must be 6 years and over and be accompanied by one adult.
Fee & Refreshments
£30 per person to include tuition, tea, coffee, or a soft drink and biscuits. Please let the Museum know if you have any dietary requirements. Fee includes entry to the Museum for those who want to stay and explore further after the workshop.
