Ploughing with Heavy Horses

The Course

Practical outdoor days learning the basics of ploughing including preparing the harness and the plough for work in the field. Beginners and improvers equally welcome.

Please note that this course is held outside in winter, and it will be cold – layers are essential.

The Tutors

Andrew Robinson is the Weald & Downland Museum’s Working Animals Supervisor. He is responsible for taking care of the Museum’s four heavy horses and working with them.

Participant Information

Everyone must wear sensible warm and waterproof clothing and suitable steel toe-cap footwear and gloves. This course also requires a high level of physical fitness.

Please note the time of year that this course is taking place, and keep an eye on the forecast – layers are essential.

Fee & Refreshments

£110 per person per day, including tuition and lunch. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know in advance. Please bring any other refreshments you may need.
