Flowers fit for a King

If you’re visiting us over King Charles III Coronation weekend, look out for the wonderful display of flowers in the Museum Gallery, created by one of our volunteers to mark the regal occasion.

Anne Saltwell has volunteered at the Museum for over 11 years, supporting with many activities and stewarding the historic houses. She previously worked as a florist for 65 years, starting out as an apprentice with Constance Spry Ltd, London in 1955.

It was Constance Spry Ltd that designed and created the floral displays for the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, so it is very special to have someone trained by the same person who did the Queen’s Coronation flowers to create a display at the Museum to mark King Charles III’s Coronation.

To celebrate the King’s love of nature, Anne has used an arrangement of seasonal and wild flowers such as cow parsley, hornbeam, spurge, alexander, solomon seal, bluebells, lilac and white tulips.

We’re very lucky to have so many talented volunteers like Anne here at the Museum.

We hope you all enjoy a fantastic bank holiday and royal celebrations! We will be open as usual, so you can come and enjoy a quiet weekend to explore our 40 acre site and historic buildings that King Charles himself has seen here on various visits over the years.
