Families looking for a fun day out should head to the Museum this half-term for fantastic indoor and outdoor hands-on fun.

From Monday 30 May – Friday 3 June, children can get stuck in to a range of activities with a craft and active focus, many of which have a horse theme, which are located around the Museum’s 40-acre downland site.

Activities vary from day-to-day but will include:

  • help create a big Shire horse portrait over the week
  • find the horse shoes to complete a missing words game
  • make an artistic rosette
  • have a go at cleaning horse brasses
  • play traditional games
  • measure your height in hands
  • try complicated 4- (or more) strand plaits, plus much more.

Wet weather will not spoil play as there are plenty of areas under cover.

The Museum’s historic buildings are fascinating places to explore. Learn how food was prepared without modern technology in the Tudor kitchen. Look out for the Shire horses, plus traditional breed farm animals including Sussex cattle, Southdown sheep and lambs, pigs and piglets, Sussex Light chickens, and geese.

Most activities are under cover and will run from 11am – 4pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The café kiosk will be open, plus there are indoor and outdoor picnic areas.

Dogs on leads are welcome and there is ample free parking. Please wear clothes and shoes that are suitable for playing outdoors.

Regular admission charges apply and the Museum will open at 10.30am and close at 6.00pm.
