Morris Day of Dance, Sunday, 10 June, 10.30am–6pm

Sussex morris dancers

Join us for a day to celebrate this traditional form of English folk dance, its music and song.

A whole host of sides will perform at the Museum to show the wide range of dances and music in the Morris tradition, and prove that it doesn’t just involve bells and handkerchiefs!

Confirmed morris sides participating include:

  • Knockhundred Shuttles
  • Sompting Village Morris, with Morris Minors
  • Fleur de Lys Morris Dancers
  • Minden Rose
  • Deorfrith Morris
  • Victory Morris
  • Fishbourne Morris
  • TRADS with Gail Duff

There will be displays of maypole and country dancing with plenty of opportunities to join in.

The programme for Day of Dance is as follows:

11am Massed dances in the Market Square

11.45am Songs from South Downs Folk Singers in the Market Square

12pm Dances by group at two locations – Market Square and near Watersfield Stables:

1.45pm Dances by group at two locations – The Market Square/Maypole and near Bayleaf Farmhouse

Information for visitors

Dogs on short leads are welcome and there is free parking. The Museum’s waterside café will be open and there are lots of picnic areas too.

The Museum is open daily from 10.30am–6pm. Visitors with disabilities are advised to read our accessibility information in advance of their visit.
