Visitors to the Museum will enjoy an unforgettable weekend of displays, demonstrations and parades at our Heavy Horse Show on the weekend of 4-5 June 2016.

Arena displays will take place throughout the weekend with ringside commentary, including a parade of horse-drawn agricultural and trade vehicles, and breeds including Shires, Suffolk Punches, Percherons and Comtois will participate in a variety of activities.

Weighing up to a ton and standing up to 19 hands high, these powerful and majestic horses are prized for their good looks and capacity for work.

  • On Saturday, the British Heavy Horse Cross Country Trials will take place. This multidisciplinary event will include dressage, marathon, obstacle drive and cones competitions.
  • On Sunday, enjoy the grand parade of many horses and horse-drawn vehicles, which will end the event on Sunday.

Watch demonstrations with a countryside theme, including: pole lathe turning, walking stick making and a display by the Guild of Model Wheelwrights. This year, visitors to the show can also:

  • Watch ferret racing by STA Ferret Rescue & STA Racers
  • Try archery with RN South Coast Archers
  • Ride a friendly donkey
  • Take a horse and carriage ride

Please note that small charges may apply to certain participatory activities.

Visitors can browse and buy from a selection of craft and trade stands, including furniture, horse brasses, jewellery, spun and blown glass, stained glass, and leatherwork.

There will be a range of delicious hot and cold food on sale and visitors can quench their thirsts with a drink from the bar in the Events Field. The Museum’s café kiosk, situated behind the Market Square, will be serving tasty homemade light lunches and snacks.
