Weald & Downland Living Museum blacksmith

Wonderful Wednesdays – 5 August 2015

Enjoy summertime and the great outdoors at the Museum. Every Wonderful Wednesday throughout August, accompanied children can enjoy hands-on arts, crafts and traditional countryside activities with a focus on summer in the South Downs.

There are a host of activities to enjoy and children of all ages can channel their excitement and energy into a range of hands-on crafts. Don’t worry! Wet weather won’t spoil play, as there are plenty of undercover areas.

What’s On

Each Wednesday a selection of the following activities will be available:

  • Make a Tudor bath bomb
  • Try blacksmithing (for children aged 8 years and over)
  • Create a candle
  • Do some willow weaving
  • Try brass rubbing
  • Make a badge
  • Victorian laundry
  • Have a go at the pole lathe

Around the Museum Site

Our historic buildings are great places to explore: learn how food was prepared in the Tudor kitchen; see how a watermill works; and look out for the Shire horses, sheep, pigs, chickens and geese.

Whatever the weather it’s a great opportunity to bring friends and family to the Museum’s idyllic location in the heart of the South Downs National Park.

Activities will run from 11am–4pm and children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please wear clothes suitable for playing outdoors.

Our café kiosk will be open, plus there are indoor and outdoor picnic areas. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is ample free parking. Regular entry charges apply and the Museum will be open from 10.30am–6pm.
