Wonderful Wednesdays

By Popular Demand Wonderful Wednesdays, Adapted

Throughout August

Due to popular demand our summer activities programme, ‘Wonderful Wednesdays’ is back, however it’s been adapted for 2020!

Our popular Wonderful Wednesdays have been extended this year, so there will be family fun and activities every day of the week throughout August – fun for the whole family, whether you are 5 or 95!

This year we will be celebrating the theme of the ‘natural world’ and will be hosting various demonstrations and displays on a different topic each week.

Topics include colours in nature to showcase how fleece is made into wool and how natural dyes are used, trees and seeds, and wildlife such as birds, bugs, butterflies and bees.

Families can enjoy walking through the beautiful grounds, discovering the many historic buildings and traditional farm animals as well as taking part in activities that change each week. From crafting leaf crowns, charcoal art and writing with quills to taking part in a bird survey and making lavender bags, there will be lots of nature-inspired fun for all ages to enjoy.

Weekly Themes

  • From Monday, 3 August: activities focus on trees and seeds.
  • From Monday, 10 August: activities focus on birds, specially ducks and geese.
  • From Monday, 17 August: activities focus on bugs and beetles.
  • From Monday, 24 August: activities focus on butterflies and bees.

Visitors will be invited to take a free activity pack from the entrance, which will lead you to creative activities and places on site – that are not to be missed! Come dressed for the outdoors and ready to explore! In addition, you can see the working watermill in action, find out how life was like living in the past through different historic homes and see traditional trades and craft skills in action.

When not busy learning and crafting, visitors can enjoy feeding the ducks, tucking into a picnic or taking part in one of the self-led trails.

Due to social distancing, only limited numbers are allowed on site each day so booking in advance is essential. All activities and demonstrations have been designed to ensure social distancing and government safety measures are adhered to at all times.
