Letter Carving in Wood

The Course

Learn the basic techniques involved in letter carving in wood. During this one day course, Sarah will take you through the various elements required to carve lettering in a basic font in Limewood using traditional carving tools. After lunch, you’ll then have the opportunity to either carve some initials or a small sign of your choice to take home with you.

The Tutor

Sarah Goss specialises in providing bespoke hand carved items ranging from lettering and relief decoration to producing architectural details and gilded frames. After graduating in 2008 from Portsmouth University in Restoration & Decorative Studies, Sarah started her own woodcarving business in 2009 carving both traditional and modern designs.

In 2013 she became an INTBAU Young Practitioner and in 2014 she took part in the Prince’s Foundation Building Craft Apprenticeship programme studying with several master carvers around the country. Since graduating she has continued to run her own business, now based in Radstock, Somerset.
