The Course
Participants will be taken through the process of marking out, roughing out and finishing a relief stone carving using hand tools. This workshop is suitable for beginners who wish to develop skills in stone carving. You will work on a design in Bath stone. We will also look at where to purchase different stones and tools, chisel sharpening and some of the health and safety issues to do with stone carving.
The Tutor
Will Spankie trained as a sculptor in 1990 at Sir John Cass School of Art in London, and later at Central St. Martins School of Art. He undertakes private and public commissions from his Brighton base, and has experience in teaching courses at a variety of levels.
Participant Information
Please wear old clothing and sturdy footwear. It is advisable to wear warm layers as the Downland Gridshell can be a cool place to work. All materials will be provided
Fee & Refreshments
£100 per person to include materials, tuition, tea and coffee. Please let the Museum know if you have any dietary requirements. The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
