Enjoy a celebration of the poetry of William Blake, who lived and wrote some of his most memorable work in West Sussex, together with a fine selection of contemporary poetry.

Actors Michael Jayston and Emily Rose Smith will read from Blake and, after an interval, we will hear some contemporary verse from Stephanie Norgate, Barry Smith, Alan Morrison and James Simpson.

There will also be music on classical guitar from Linda Kellsall-Barnett.


Performance starts at 7:30pm. Adults £10.00 and concessions £8.00. Ticket prices include complimentary cake.

About the poets

Michael Jayston, film, stage and TV actor, star of Oscar winning film Nicholas and Alexandra; worked with Laurence Olivier and Peggy Ashcroft in the West End; in Dr Who on TV with Colin Baker, and also in Only Fools and Horses and Eastenders.

Emily Rose Smith has recently starred in Chekhov’s The Bear at Festival of Chichester with Nick Moran; London plays include Canaries Sometimes Sing and Christina Rossetti’s Goblin Market.

Stephanie Norgate, James Simpson and Alan Morrison are admired Sussex poets with many publications. Barry Smith is Co-ordinator of the Festival of Chichester and director of Chichester Poetry.

This event is held in association with The Chichester Festival and the Weald and Downland Museum.
