Design your own Fairisle pattern (Rachael Kay)

Design Your Own Fairisle Pattern

The Course

The first part of this course will involve a walk around the Weald and Downland Museum where we will photograph and/or sketch ideas, taking inspiration from the colours and patterns seen in the local landscape and buildings. We will take this inspiration back to the classroom and create our own Weald and Downland Museum-inspired stranded colourwork patterns. First we will convert our ideas into repeatable patterns on graph paper, then we will create swatches and experiment with colour, using naturally dyed, locally sourced Sussex yarn. By the end of the day you will have a Museum-inspired swatch, ready to incorporate into a knitted item of your choice.

The Tutor

Rachael Kay is a crafter and teacher based in Worthing. Having learned to knit as a child, she decided after many years of knitting and crocheting to share her passion for these traditional crafts and teach both in Worthing and beyond, which she has been doing for the past six years.
