Lost decoration of historic buildings
Monday 11 November 2019
In this day school we will explore the lost decorations of grand buildings, from sources such as The Painted Chamber at Westminster and Holbein’s mural at Whitehall, as well as the less grand. We will see how fashions influenced churches, houses and hospitals, with examples from Windsor, Canterbury, Coventry and elsewhere.
Dr Jonathan Foyle has written six books on cathedrals and castles and a hundred articles on architecture and crafts totaling a quarter of a million words. A former curator at Hampton Court (the subject of his Ph.D.) and CEO of World Monuments Fund Britain, he has presented series for BBC such as the 15-part ‘Climbing Great Buildings’ and frequently contributed to Channel 4’s ‘Time Team’.
Participants might wish to bring a notepad or paper.
