Step back in time and enjoy traditional Easter celebrations at the Museum this Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Easter marks the start of the Museum’s main season, when you can enjoy the longer days and warmer weather against the stunning backdrop of the South Downs National Park.
Our fun-packed schedule varies daily and offers activities for the whole family to enjoy, including:
- Easter cooking in the Tudor kitchen
- egg painting
- bonnet making
- a traditional bonnet parade on Easter Monday
Activities vary daily, so please check our what’s on pages in advance of your visit:
The Museum’s Bayleaf farmstead with its adjoining Winkhurst Tudor kitchen offers a wonderful backdrop to the Easter activities. The Museum’s Good Friday Bake will begin the weekend’s celebrations, with the firing-up of the bread oven in Winkhurst Tudor kitchen.
On Easter Sunday visitors can watch cookery demonstrations in the Museum’s Winkhurst Tudor Kitchen, see a traditional Easter meal and find out how ordinary folk would have observed Easter. Visitors on Easter Sunday can also try egg painting.
On Easter Monday, visitors can decorate their own bonnet and have the chance to win prizes in the Easter Bonnet parade in the Market Square at 4pm.
Throughout the three Easter dates, costumed interpreters will be present in the Museum’s Bayleaf Farmstead and Winkhurst Tudor kitchen, to demonstrate the Tudor life of a yeoman farmer and his family.
In addition to the traditional entertainment on offer, visitors can explore the Museum’s collection of 50 rescued historic buildings, meet the new spring lambs and see traditional breed farm animals.
Our café kiosk will be serving refreshments and light lunches, plus there are indoor and outdoor picnic areas. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is ample free parking.
Regular admission charges apply and the Museum will open daily from 10.30am, closing at 4pm on Good Friday and 6pm on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
Whatever the weather, a visit to the Museum is a great opportunity to bring friends and family to its idyllic location in the heart of the South Downs National Park.
We hope you can join us!
