In preparation for the Wassailing that is taking place in the Museum this Saturday, the Bakehouse has been looking for local recipes using apples and cider in a cake, and trail baked a Sussex Wassailing Cake recipe.
The feedback from staff and volunteers has been very positive. So we will be adding it to the Bakehouse offering on Saturday – it will be baked in the morning with tastings available in the afternoon.
The apple and raisins for the cake are first steeped in warmed cider before being added to the dry ingredients, along with honey, butter and eggs. This results in a very tasty and moist fruit sponge cake as you can see in the picture.
This weekend is our History Life Weekend: Stories when the wassailing makes up part of the activities on Saturday.
