Visitors to the Museum on Sunday, 4 November can watch and participate in a number of traditional and craft activities with a Bonfire Night theme.

Come and hear the 1605 story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot, see the bonfire lit in celebration of King James I’s survival and take part in the 5th November Act (known as Gunpowder Treason Day) celebrations – an enforced annual public day of thanksgiving for the plot’s failure.

Families can enjoy a range of crafts and activities before the bonfire is lit, which plan to include:

  • Hear fireside stories
  • Make a mini Guy Fawkes
  • See demonstrations of firelighting with a flint and steel
  • Make conker creations
  • Draw a fiery picture
  • Join in with singing and dancing around the bonfire from 3pm–4pm.

Activities will run from from 11am–3pm, when the bonfire will be lit. Please note that all activities are subject to change.

Children (under 18s) must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Please wear clothes suitable for playing outdoors (wellies are advisable).

Explore the Museum between activities and enjoy the fresh air! See the heavy horses and the other traditional breed farm animals including oxen, chickens and geese.

There are lovely woodland walks and children can explore our woodland play area (and meet Knucker the dragon) and family activity barn.

Our waterside café will be open, plus there are indoor and outdoor picnic areas. Dogs on leads are welcome and there is ample free parking. Please note that the Museum is a no smoking site.

Regular entry charges apply (free for Annual Members) and the Museum will be open from 10.30am–4pm.
