Victorian School Experience KS1-KS2

Duration: 45 minutes

Maximum numbers: 15 children

The Victorian School experience offers the chance for children to become Victorian school children and take part in a Victorian class. It is held in a Victorian school building from West Wittering, used from the 1820’s until 1851.

The programme reflects a typical elementary school morning led by a school mistress or master. The lessons are adapted to suit the needs and abilities of the children, but can cover literacy, handwriting, arithmetic and good manners. Children are encouraged to participate in role-play, and through it compare the experience with their personal modern school lessons and day.

Our school mistress or master will be in Victorian clothing, and children and their adults are welcome to come in Victorian clothing to enhance the experience.

PLEASE NOTE The lesson includes elements of Victorian Christian practice, for example morning prayers or hymns. We include these for historical purposes, but please let us know if you have any queries about this element, or would prefer that it is not included.

The children remain the responsibility of the teacher or teacher/helper during these workshops. It is vital that the children behave in a safe and responsible manner.
