PIG TO PORK
WEEKEND AND THE 'BIG PIG GIG' FOR CHILDREN
10-11 November 2007
|

Winkhurst
Tudor kitchen has proved immensely popular with visitors since it opened in
2002. The cook, in Tudor costume, prepares food from authentic period
recipes. ‘Pig to Pork’ reflects the Museum’s aim of preserving the rural
traditions of the southeast by using authentic techniques. The Museum is
home to rare breeds including ginger-coloured
Tamworth
pigs, and during the ‘Pig to Pork’ weekend the pork used in the kitchen will
be from animals born at the Museum.
Learn about jointing, salting and
using pork. Watch demonstrations of preserving and
cookery, and sample some delicious pork cooked over the open fire in the
Tudor kitchen. And for younger visitors, don't miss the Big Pig Gig, with
piggy arts, crafts, games, stories, poems and much more!

TREE DRESSING
2 December 2007 : 12.30 - 4.00pm
|

A festival of trees rooted in the Green Man legends
of ancient times and the importance of natural objects to man. One of
our busiest days in the winter, people of all ages flock to join in with
dancing, singing, fireside story telling, mummers plays
ending with a lantern procession and spiral dance around a magnificent
aspen tree as it is dressed with the lanterns.
To join in with the lantern making workshop, don’t forget to
bring a jam jar and a night light! Beginning at 12.30pm
the celebrations last until about 4.30pm.
Lantern making will finish
around 3pm in time for the procession at 3.45pm. Mulled wine and mince pies available.
If you're stuck for a particular Christmas present why not have a look in
the Christmas craft market or the Museum's gift shop. The shop has a well-deserved reputation for
its wide range of books
on rural and related traditions and is the ideal place to discover volumes
unlikely to be found in the high street.
