Chichester was founded circa AD70 by the Romans who laid out the main street plan and built the original city walls, which were rebuilt in Medieval times.  The Walls Walk offers a fascinating insight into the City with its varied architecture, parks and gardens. The focal point of the city is Chichester Cathedral in the heart of the city has been the centre of the community for 900 years.  Its treasures range from Romanesque stone carvings to 20th century works of art including a window by Marc Chagall, a tapestry by John Piper and a painting by Graham Sutherland.

Pallant House Gallery, built in 1712. An outstanding example of late Queen Anne town architecture with meticulously restored and furnished rooms.  The gallery displays a permanent collection of 20th century paintings, drawings, graphics and sculpture by such artists
as Graham Sutherland, Frank Auerbach, Paul Nash, Henry Moore, John Piper, Barbara Hepworth, Ben Nicholson, Ivon Hitchens, Ceri Richards and many others.  

Chichester Festival Theatre and Minerva Studio Theatre is one of the UK's flagship theatre complexes with an international reputation for creating magical live performance.  The emphasis of the theatres program is the Summer Festival Season, running from May to September and includes plays from the classics to new writing as well as productions from the musical repertoire, cabaret and comedy nights.

During July the Chichester Festivities is a leading arts festival based in the Cathedral, Goodwood House and numerous other local venues.  International symphony orchestras, soloists and artists feature in an exciting programme which includes classical music, jazz, cabaret and light music, 'celebrity talks' and literary events, films, theatre, lunchtime and coffee concerts,
