We are delighted to announce the following sessions for our part in the 2017 Living Well with Dementia Festival.
All the sessions will run 2.30pm – 4pm, we will explore the topic for around 45 minutes and then chat informally over tea and cake.
Explore the Gridshell artefact store
Saturday 18 March 2017 During this session you will have the chance to look around the Museum store, which holds over 15,000 artefacts. We have the contents of some whole workshops (such as coopers shop) and other objects are donated individually. This session requires limited walking inside the store and there is parking very nearby.
Tuesday 4 April 2017 Come and listen to some unusual, historic musical instruments, hear about their history and enjoy some music. We will be in one of our historic homes at the Museum.
Make a clay pot
Wednesday 3 May 2017 From wattle and daub, to clay tiles or bricks, there are many places at the Museum that use materials from the earth. In this session we will use air-dry modelling clay to make a small pot, or similar.
Tudor herbs and medicine
Thursday 8 June 2017 The Tudors thought that bad smells made them ill so we will make some nice smelling pomander beads in this session. As you mix the herbs and spices, the leader will discuss the different ingredients and interesting ideas from Tudor times.
Tactile wooden sculpture
Monday 3 July 2017 Join this session with our sculptors. You will have the chance to hold some of the small, hand-sized carvings they have done and look at other examples of their work. The artist will discuss their inspiration.
How to book
Each session will start at 2.30pm and will last for 45 minutes. Tea, coffee and cake will be served at the end of the session.
A small charge of £4 per person applies. If you are interested in taking part please book using the links above, phone us on 01243 811021 or email [email protected] to find out more and to book your place (pre-booking is essential).
