The West Sussex Past Gateway.
The
Gateway brings together 28 heritage & other data bases listing over 2
million books, documents, films, objects, photographs & pictures
belonging to archives, museums, public libraries, societies and
universities. To improve access to these rich collections West Sussex
County Council Library Service and 13 other organisations formed a
consortium to create this new portal website, made possible by £40,000
of Heritage Lottery funding.
The Gateway is free
of charge and easy to use. It employs revolutionary new software (DScovery)
to enable simultaneous searching of the databases. Quick Search or
Advanced Search options are available. The Links page includes details
of over 300 websites related to West Sussex and/or heritage matters
under these headings: Archives, Books & Public Libraries, Film, Family
History, Historic Buildings & Gardens, Local Government, Maps, Museums,
Newspapers, Photographs, Places to Visit, Publishers, Societies &
Organisations, Subjects & Themes Countywide, Towns & Villages and

English Heritage

England is properly maintained and cared for. By employing some of the
country's very best architects, archaeologists and historians,
