Wassailing Feast (Ticketed)
Book your tickets to our Wassailing Feast on Saturday 20 January 2018. Get into the Wassail spirit with a torchlit procession to the orchard at Bayleaf Farmstead, with song and short performances. Join in with the ‘Wassail’ shout and make lots of noise to bless our trees by singing and shooing away the bad spirits. A blessing will be performed; slices of toast will be tied to apple tree branches and cider poured over the tree roots. The ceremony is said to bless the trees to produce a good crop in the forthcoming season.
After the ceremony, head to the Museum’s waterside Wattle & Daub café for a sumptuous four-course apple-themed feast, before departing at 8.00pm. View the feast menu online here. There will be entertainment and making merry in the true spirit of wassail!
Booking is essential – tickets £45 per head. Tables of 2-12 can be booked.
***SORRY – booking is now closed for this event***
“Stand fast root, bear well top
Pray the God send us a howling good crop.
Every twig, apples big.
Every bough, apples now.”
