Weave a rush mat

The course

An opportunity to make your own woven rush mat using the indigenous common bulrush, Scirpus Lacustris, collected from the river Thames.
You will be using this wonderfully supple material and techniques common to basketry to create a unique mat to treasure.

The tutor

Rachel Frost has been a professional historic milliner for the past 10 years, making hats in a variety of materials for museums and private collections worldwide.
She has recently received the Janet Arnold award for costume research she is currently making a study of early hats in Britain.

Participant information

All materials will be provided.

Fee and refreshments

£65 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. Please let the Museum know in advance any special dietary requirements.  The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
