The Course

From earliest evidence to craft revival, we look at how soap developed and make hot processed soft soap, pure olive Castile soap and Tudor inspired herb washballs to take away. Class format is a mixture of hands on workshop and in depth talk and will provide a thorough working knowledge of the history and practicality of soapmaking.

The Tutor

Sally Pointer has a background in archaeology and in museum education. She is the author of ‘The Artifice of Beauty, a practical guide to perfumes and cosmetics’ and now works as a freelance heritage educator exploring traditional crafts through practical experiments. She is currently writing a new full scale book on the history and archaeology of soap.

Fee & Refreshments

£75 per person, to include tuition, teas and coffees. Please let the Museum know if you have any dietary requirements. The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
