Driving heavy horses

The course

Harness up and drive the Museum’s draft horses in the field and on the track, chain harrowing, and shaft and pole work. Beginners and improvers equally welcome.

The tutor

Mark Buxton is the Museum’s horseman. He has wide experience in working with horses and has come to the museum from the Royal Parks, where he was head horseman for 14 years. His duties at the Museum include sowing, chain harrowing, ploughing, harvesting, timber extraction and many other general duties.

Participant information

Everyone must wear sensible warm and waterproof clothing and suitable steel toe-cap footwear and gloves.


£90 per person per day, including tuition and lunch. Please bring any other refreshment you may need. Please let the Museum know in advance of any special dietary requirements.
