BASIC WINKHURST TRAINING -WINKHURST HALL & KITCHEN

Wednesday 30th April 10am-12.00 or 2pm-4pm
Wednesday 14th May 10am-12.00 or 2pm-4pm

A short 2-hour session covering basic food handling and interpretation presentation information. Everyone working in Winkhurst or planning to volunteer in any capacity in the kitchen must attend this compulsory session to update themselves with the latest information plus a chance to meet the Interpreters, Schools team as well as other volunteers. Find out what’s happening in the kitchen this year!

TUDOR BREWING  (WINKHURST KITCHEN & HALL)

Led by Jon Roberts & Vicky Guest

Saturday 16th Feb 10am-1pm/ Wednesday 7th May 10am-1pm

A practical session for both new and experienced Winkhurst workers. Learn how to use the copper to brew ale and beer and find out more about the history behind it. The session will end at 1pm but you are welcome to stay on and work alongside Jon & Vicky for the afternoon.

PURGING & SCOURING! (WINKHURST KITCHEN & HALL)

A practical session to get down and dirty in the kitchen! Find out what all those replica items on the shelves were used for – how were they looked after and what do we need to do to run it as working kitchen for our new ‘Purging & Scouring’ demonstrations. Sluicing, oiling and scouring will be all part of the fun! Please bring a packed lunch to eat in Winkhurst Hall, as we will not be cooking. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.  

TUDOR BAKING (WINKHURST KITCHEN & HALL)

A chance to fire up the bread oven and do a bake. From making dough and pastry through to the finished product. A practical session for new and experienced Winkhurst volunteers that will also look at the history of bread and pastry in Tudor England preparing for Easter. Please bring your own packed lunch to eat in Winkhurst Hall. Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be provided. 

BASIC TUDOR COOKERY (WINKHURST KITCHEN & HALL)

A practical session to cover the basic Tudor diet and cooking staples – pottage, bread and ale! A course for new and more experienced volunteers to learn or refresh cooking techniques. Please bring your own packed lunch to eat in Winkhurst Hall. Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be provided. 

ADVANCED TUDOR COOKERY (WINKHURST KITCHEN & HALL)

Practical sessions to flex your Tudor cookery muscles and try some of the more out-of-the-ordinary dishes we cook in the kitchen. A chance to have a go at recipes you may not have tried before plus a chance to meet some of the other regular volunteers. This course is suitable for more experienced Winkhurst volunteers. Please bring your own packed lunch to eat in Winkhurst Hall. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
