Houses — Our team of interpreters and volunteers are there to talk about the houses and gardens, as well as cooking, cleaning, dairying or brewing — something different every day.
Demonstrations — The watermill is working every day, grinding flour (which you can buy — it makes excellent bread!). Other frequent demonstrations include blacksmithing, lead working, masonry, wood carving, lime slaking and pole-lathe turning — call the Museum for up-to-date details.
Building crafts — Our buildings show almost every traditional building craft, from carpentry and joinery to thatch, lime and plaster. Know your plasterers' hawks from your carpenters' dogs? If not, why not book in for one of the many courses we run?
Conservation — How do you repair an oak beam? — old and new methods can be seen. How do you move a house made of 50 tons of brick and stone? — easy: use 8,500 numbers and put each brick back in place! How do you restore a one hundred year old hand-operated crane to working use? With a lot of care and enthusiasm!
