An introductory two-day course for novices to learn the basic skills and make a traditional woven hazel sheep hurdle.
John Lindfield has been wood working and coppicing for over 20 years and has built up his experience during that time. He now gladly offers to share his skills through courses for people who have a general interest or want to get more involved in the coppice industry and related crafts.
John’s family have lived in Sussex for over 400 years and in that time has moved 10 miles.
Participants are asked to wear suitable outdoor clothing. Please also bring gloves and sturdy footwear (steel toecap boots are recommended.) The workshop is designed for up to 8 participants.
£165 per person, to include tuition, tools, course materials and a ploughman’s lunch will be provided. Please bring any other refreshment you may require during the day.
The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum has over 45 historic building exhibits. It is also home to the award winning and innovative Downland Gridshell, which houses a conservation workshop and artefact store, and is also used for many practical courses. The Museum runs a full programme of courses in historic building conservation and traditional rural trades and crafts, along with MSc programmes in Building Conservation and Timber Building Conservation.
