Using a simple frame loom (which you can keep) and a variety of yarns to produce a woven landscape wall hanging. The emphasis will be on colour blending and both traditional and 3D techniques will be used during the day. No experience of weaving is needed.
Hilary Charlesworth is a weaver who lives and works in West Sussex. She has a City and Guilds certificate in Creative Textiles and a City and Guilds Adult Teaching certificate. Hillary is a member of the IfL and the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen. She has taught spinning, weaving, and felt making for many years, and exhibits her own work regularly.
Students should bring a notebook, any interesting yarns (in appropriate colour for landscape) they may like to use, and a camera if possible.
£45 per person, to include tuition, materials, teas and coffees.
The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum has over 45 historic building exhibits. It is also home to the award winning and innovative Downland Gridshell, which houses a conservation workshop and artefact store, and is also used for many practical courses. The Museum runs a full programme of courses in historic building conservation and traditional rural trades and crafts, along with MSc programmes in Building Conservation and Timber Building Conservation validated by Bournemouth University.
