Rag rugging is a uniquely accessible folk craft. Over two centuries rag-rugs, made mainly by women, reflected the everyday life of different communities in the U.K. and North America. Rug making fitted in with home life, filling long winter evenings and satisfying creative and practical needs. Come and get hooked!
Make a rug, a cushion, a bag.... the only limit is your imagination.

Crochet hooks sizes 4 or 5 (2.5mm & 3.00mm)
Sharp fabric scissors

Any other latch hooks or prodders
Fabrics, remnants, old t-shirts, leggings etc, plastic bags, string, anything that can be cut into strips Ruler, pens, pencils, markers, paper
Books, magazines for inspiration and creativity!
Backing fabric can be purchased from the
tutor, but bring anything suitable if you have it.
Each group will be limited to 10 people to ensure enough individual attention.

The Museum café will be open or you can bring a packed lunch.
The Weald & Downland Open Air Museum has over 45 historic building exhibits. It is also home to the award winning and innovative Downland Gridshell, which houses a conservation workshop and artefact store, and is also used for many practical courses. The Museum runs a full programme of courses in historic building conservation and traditional rural trades and crafts, along with MSc programmes in Building Conservation and Timber Building Conservation.
