10am to 5pm
This ‘Learn to Crochet’ day will provide the opportunity to learn the basics of how to crochet, read a pattern and learn from the tutor’s knowledge of this adaptable and flexible art form.
Having trained and worked as a mathematics teacher from the mid 1960s, Kay Hamilton retained a vital interest in the colours, textures and techniques of knitting and, in particular, crochet. She remained of the opinion for many years, however, that “I know all the stitches, but I could never follow a pattern.” The encouragement of a friend proved her wrong and (with apologies for the pun), she was hooked! A short course some 10 years later provided further inspiration. With the groundwork of the basic stitches in place, she was introduced to freeform crochet in random colours and textures. That was the moment when things took off.
